I keep returning to salt marshes as a subject for my embroideries. I work from photographs that I take on site, and so have the opportunity to spend time in the marshes, a serene and fulfilling environment. I find that I am drawn to the water as well as to the grasses; several of the 2002-3 embroideries seem to be as much about water as about the marsh. My most recent pieces, Salt Marsh, Early Spring I and II (2006) are about the pattern of light and shadow on the grass. It is always interesting to me to note where my visual interests are leading me.
